Sunglasses and Sunscreen Make the Adventure Better June 08 2016
Montana is full of adventures. From climbing mountains to white water rafting and everything in between, Montana has it all. The mountains and rivers are accessible and when the summer time hits it is nice to be able to escape the heat by either going up into thinner air or down into the water.
This past weekend I climbed St. Mary’s Peak in the Bitterroot valley. The summit’s elevation is 9,400 and although it is not the tallest mountain in the Bitterroot Mountain Range (Trapper Peak is), it does provide an incredible view once you make it to the top.
The weather was hot the day we hiked to the summit, and there were very few clouds in the sky. Luckily I had the right gear to help me reach the top without getting sunburnt or blinded. I rocked my colorful Blue Planet sunglasses. The reflection of the sun off the snow was brutal, but luckily my sunglasses were there, on my face, to protect my eyes. They are polarized and awesome. Blue Planet is a socially and ecologically responsible company. They use recycled and reclaimed materials along with wood and bamboo. One of my favorite things about this company this their global impact on those who are visually impaired. Every pair of sunglasses sold gives a pair of glasses to someone in need.
I also made sure I was wearing some sunscreen. I prefer the 50SPF Cool Sport Air Powered Spray by Kiss My Face. It is water resistant, contains no parabens, oxybenzone, or phthalates and it doesn’t use any chemical propellants! The continuous spray is easy to apply and reapply without that feeling of greasy hands. I am a very pale individual and the sun likes to burn me when I am not being careful. I was able to hike all day in a tank top without getting burned at all. I reapplied the spray every 2 or so hours and my skin stayed moisturized and sunburn free.
Every Montanan knows that the weather here is unpredictable. It’s not always sunny and warm. It can change in an instant but it’s nice to know your eyes and skin are protected
