Sunglasses and Sunscreen Make the Adventure Better June 08 2016

Montana is full of adventures. From climbing mountains to white water rafting and everything in between, Montana has it all. The mountains and rivers are accessible and when the summer time hits it is nice to be able to escape the heat by either going up into thinner air or down into the water.

This past weekend I climbed St. Mary’s Peak in the Bitterroot valley. The summit’s elevation is 9,400 and although it is not the tallest mountain in the Bitterroot Mountain Range (Trapper Peak is), it does provide an incredible view once you make it to the top.

The weather was hot the day we hiked to the summit, and there were very few clouds in the sky. Luckily I had the right gear to help me reach the top without getting sunburnt or blinded. I rocked my colorful Blue Planet sunglasses. The reflection of the sun off the snow was brutal, but luckily my sunglasses were there, on my face, to protect my eyes. They are polarized and awesome. Blue Planet is a socially and ecologically responsible company. They use recycled and reclaimed materials along with wood and bamboo. One of my favorite things about this company this their global impact on those who are visually impaired. Every pair of sunglasses sold gives a pair of glasses to someone in need.

I also made sure I was wearing some sunscreen. I prefer the 50SPF Cool Sport Air Powered Spray by Kiss My Face. It is water resistant, contains no parabens, oxybenzone, or phthalates and it doesn’t use any chemical propellants! The continuous spray is easy to apply and reapply without that feeling of greasy hands. I am a very pale individual and the sun likes to burn me when I am not being careful. I was able to hike all day in a tank top without getting burned at all. I reapplied the spray every 2 or so hours and my skin stayed moisturized and sunburn free.

Every Montanan knows that the weather here is unpredictable. It’s not always sunny and warm. It can change in an instant but it’s nice to know your eyes and skin are protected

E-Cloth and the magic of cleaning. June 03 2016

Deep cleaning your house can quickly become a toxic experience filled with dangerous chemicals that are bad for you and bad for the environment. E-Cloth is a cleaning product company with a mission to change the way we clean the spaces around us.

E-cloth is a chemical-free system that is good for the environment, good for your wallet, good for your house and bad for dust, grime, dirt, fingerprints, smudges, grease, oils and bacteria. E-cloth is able to clean so well because of the fiber technology that goes into each cloth. “Each fiber is about 1/200th the width of a human hair and is split into 16 fiber strands resulting in an amazing 1.6 million strands per square inch”. When water is added these fibers become a trap for all the dirt and grime. Leaving a clean, polished surface with no chemical residue.

I recently moved houses and I had to do a lot of cleaning in my old place to make sure I got my security deposit back. I was able to clean my whole house with e-cloths. I didn’t use any chemicals and I successfully cleaned my kitchen, bathroom, windows, counters, shelves, and cupboards. When I felt the cloths were no longer doing a stand up job I would rinse them in super-hot water and suddenly they worked like they were brand new again. Once I was done with all the cleaning I put them in my washing machine (along with the rest of my laundry) and washed them. The cloths come with a 300 wash guarantee, so they should last me for about 6 years! I loved that I didn’t have to use and throw away any paper towels and I didn’t have to inhale any toxic chemicals.

We have a full stock of e-cloth products. So come on into the store and check out a new way to clean!

Klean Kanteen and a Cleaner World May 26 2016

Here, at The Green Light, we are committed to helping advocate for the environment and the preservation of the natural world. Many of the products we carry come from companies that have initiatives that go towards the restoration and preservation of the natural world around us.

Klean Kanteen is a company that has all the right stuff. From their #bringyourown campaign to help reduce the use and waste of plastic cups at events and festivals, to their pledge of at least 1% of all annual sales to non-profit organizations working to protect, preserve, and restore the natural environment.

We've been carrying their insulated thermos canteens, water bottles, growlers, tumblers, and stainless steal pints for years and we are excited to continue our relationship with them as they remain committed to a sustainable life.
