Waiting for Spring! March 08 2019
Spring is still not here and while we are all looking forward to wearing less clothing and spending more time outside, we must endure one final blow from old man winter. While staring outside, hoping of longer and warmer days, day dream about all the warm weather threads that have been sitting neglected in the back of your closet for the last six months. I love sun-dresses as much as the next gal and here at The Green Light, we are anxiously awaiting our spring and summer orders to arrive. Read on below to learn a little more about a few of our favorite companies and why we choose to carry them!
Every dress this company sells is handmade by a skilled, female artisan in either India or Nepal. The patterns on these beautiful garments are screen and block printed using traditional techniques. This conservative practice allows each dress to be as unique as the women who craft them. We love this company because they employee hundreds of women and give them strength as they fight for not only equality in the workplace but in their communities and homes as well. Mata’s dresses are not made until all their orders are received to ensure no material is wasted.
All of the fabrics they use are either made in the USA or fair trade. They use recycled plastic, organic cotton, hemp and low-impact dyes to support sustainable living while promoting sustainable business practices. Soul Flower even uses soy-based on their catalogs which are printed on 100% post-consumer recycled paper. Everything this company does from printing to shipping is done with a conscious effort to reduce their footprint on our special planet. We love them because they give back to organizations that focus on rebuilding communities abroad torn apart by natural disasters and do a lot of work with programs that battle hunger all over America.
Kind Apparel is based right here in Missoula, Montana! We love supporting local vendors and love them even more when they make such kick-ass threads with some of the grooviest designs you will see any time of the year. The Fjord dress is a cozy long hoodie style garb that is great to wear throughout the winter and the summer dresses all carry prints that are sure to turn heads and swing ponytails. Mallory is the owner and she also designs all of her own prints that can be described as subtle flair or loud brilliance. We love Kind Apparel because it is based right here in our lovely town of Missoula and as a member of 1% For The Planet, they give back 1% of their annual sales to environmental non-profit partners.
Blue Platypus designs and creates all of their dresses, tees, hoodies and bags right here in the United States. Based in Los Angeles, California, this company strives to reduce their environmental footprint by using local products and sourcing materials that come from nearby manufacturers. Living under perpetual sunshine, Blue Platypus knows how to create a soft and breathable dress with warm colors and spectacular designs to pull you out of your winter funk. We love this company because their fantastically fun patterns remind us of longer days and warmer nights.
